Why choose a trail at Noonmark Mountain, New York?

Noonmark Mountain is a 3,556-foot (1,084 m) mountain near St. Huberts (Highway 73, Exit 30), in the Adirondack High Peaks region of New York, USA. The prominent summit provides a 360-degree view, including the Great Range, Ten Range, Giant Mountain, Ausable River Valley and the village of Keene. Once seen from the nearby hamlet of Keene Valley, where it dominates the view, the summit of Noonmark Mountain is more or less directly under the sun at midday.

Many sections of the trail are not very well marked, as other reports have said, and we are very grateful for the excellent maintenance of the trails. I think this hike is rightly classified as difficult, contrary to what I have read in some articles. You're gonna be glad you did that. How to get there, take exit 30 Northway and turn left on the Rt. follow six-tenths of a gravel road (ausable club road) and turn right on the Stimson Trail, which you will follow to the top of Noonmark.

Noonmark Summit

Noonmark, the crown jewel of Keene Valley, NY, may not have become the 46th highest club in the Adirondacks, but the views from the summit are among the best in the park. From the rugged summit, you will have panoramic views, but the best view of everything is of the Great Cordillera, a collection of mountains composed of Upper and Lower Wolfjaws, Armstrong, Gothic, Saddleback, Basin, Marcy and Haystack, to the northwest. The chapel and round ponds are the most frequently fished waters in the wild, offering both camping and the opportunity to fish for seeded brook trout. Those who wish can go to one of the many small inland ponds, including Cranberry, Lilypad and Rhododendron ponds, for a more distant fishing experience.

Noonmark is a very difficult hike that gets steeper and steeper as it reaches the top at 3,556 feet, despite a relatively short 4.8 mile round trip. After a particularly steep climb, hikers can enter the first of a series of outcrops, offering a view of the summit too far away as well as some of the surrounding high peaks. From there, the limestone slabs continue to form a large part of the trail that climbs very steeply to the top. At the top, there are only enough leaves to provide some isolation, but the difficulty of this hike often keeps crowds at bay.

Go back to the way you went, or add a few kilometers and another point to the car to make a loop. Trekking is done in a straight line, directly from the trailhead, at nearly 1,000 feet gained per mile of hiking. How to do this is my backup plan for Noonmark. Since Noonmark, mine has been in a reclining chair for three days and has never walked again.
