Why choose a trail at Kelly Canyon?

Kelly Canyon is an alpine ski area in eastern Idaho, in the Targhee National Forest. Northeast of Idaho Falls, it straddles the county line in the southeastern corner of Jefferson County and also in southern Madison County. The ski area opened in 1957, founded by E. Bud Johnson. The summit is at an elevation of 6,600 feet (2,012 m) above sea level with a vertical drop of 1,000 feet (305 m), on 640 acres (2.6 km2) of slopes. Lift service includes four double chairlifts and a rope tow on the north-facing slopes. The terrain is rated at 35% easiest, 45% more difficult, and 20% most difficult. The annual snowfall is 200 inches (510 cm), supplemented with snowmaking. The ski area is open six days and nights a week, but is closed on Sundays. Kelly Canyon also has Nordic skiing and snowshoeing trails, just beyond the alpine lifts. The snowshoe trails are designated with Atlas Snowshoe markers for easy navigation.

Very old school....ghetto actually. We got free passes and I still felt a bit ripped off. They wouldn't let me on the lift without a leash on my board!! Is this still the 90's? All the lifts are old. none of them high speed. The lines were short and it wasn't crowded and it still took forever. The lodge doesn't even serve beer and the food lines were ridiculous along with the employees cooking. If I lived here where there was nothing else I might not hate it but anyone who has been at a decent resort will think it's pretty ghetto.

I live within 1.5 hours of Kelly Canyon and love to ski. Have only been there skiing three times though. Each time was about 7 years apart. Every time I go, I remember why it has been so long, because the skiing isn't great. The lifts are laid out weirdly and the runs are way too short. The last two times we went, the lift to get to the far side of the mountain, where there were decent runs, was closed for all but the last hour of the day. Better off going to Pomerelle, Pebble, Targhee or Jackson.

I snowboard here in the winter time when I donโ€™t feel like going to Targhee, but I just found out they opened it up for mountain biking. Itโ€™s got a lot of potential to be a fun park, some trails donโ€™t flow in very well. It will just take some time to get everything dialed in. I would recommend this place for people just getting into mountain biking. All in all itโ€™s an easy going trail and will probably go again. Also the price of a ticket for the day was only $25 dollars on a Friday!๐Ÿ˜€
