Why choose a trail at Tonquin Valley Loop?

The Tonquin Valley Loop is a must-do hike in Alberta’s Jasper National Park. The trail winds its way through pristine wilderness, past rushing waterfalls and alongside tranquil alpine lakes. The hike is moderate in difficulty, making it perfect for all experience levels. The best time to do the loop is in the summer, when the wildflowers are in bloom and the weather is warm.

The hike begins at the Tonquin Valley parking lot, located just off of the Icefields Parkway. From there, it’s a short walk to the trailhead, where the real adventure begins. The first few kilometers of the hike are relatively easy, with a gradual elevation gain. As you progress further into the valley, the trail becomes more challenging, with steep climbs and rocky terrain. But the effort is worth it, as the views get better and better.

After about six kilometers, you’ll reach Alice Lake. This beautiful alpine lake is a great place to stop for a break, and maybe even a swim. From Alice Lake, it’s another four kilometers to reach the end of the loop. Be sure to take your time on this section of the trail, as there are some amazing views to be had.

When you reach the end of the loop, you’ll be back at the parking lot where you started. Be sure to take some time to enjoy the incredible scenery that surrounds you – you won’t find anything like it anywhere else.
