Frequently asked questions

Which region should I pick for a hike in France?

For the widest choice: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (49 trails described), Occitanie (39), Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (35) and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (20). Every region has its own page and its selection of the best hikes.

How do I find a trail that suits my level?

Each trail page gives the level, the distance and an estimated duration. To start, begin with your region’s selection: a Top 10 for five of them, the 9 best in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and the 5 best in Bretagne and in Corse.

Do all trails require a pass?

No. It depends on the place: parks and several reserves may charge an access fee, sometimes with a booking, while other trails are free to enter. The trail page says so when the information is known: always check with the site manager.

Where can I check access and conditions?

On the site manager’s website: each trail page says who manages the trail when the information is known. For the weather, check the local forecast before you go.
