Why visit Parc naturel régional des Causses du Quercy

The Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park is a heavily eroded karst plateau with many wonderful attractions, including Rocamadour, a medieval village built on the edge of a cliff.

The main tourist attraction that draws millions to this town each year is The Esplanade des Sanctuaires, which consists of 7 churches and chapels, including the famous Notre Dame chapel.

The village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is also a medieval village, with its half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and lookouts. It is a stop on the way to Santiago de Compostela, and then to Cahors and its Saint-Etienne cathedral.

The Pech Merle cave is also located a few kilometers away and is a splendid gallery of prehistoric art.

You will find it hard to believe that the paintings and engravings depicting mammoths, bison, horses, signs, figures, hands and footprints date back over 20,000 years.

The Gouffre de Padirac is one of the star attractions of the Regional Natural Park and the Lot department. The 103 meter deep hole is accessible by elevator, and you can take a boat along the underground river and then find it on foot. You will find impressive cascades of calcite and stalactites!
