A village located in the heart of the Jura, an hour from Chalon-sur-Saône and classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, the small commune of Baume-Les-Messieurs, formerly named Baume-les-Moines, is a real treasure and an integral part of the region's heritage!

Its rich heritage, both natural and historical, will delight hikers in search of discovery: during the crossing of this 8-kilometer loop trail, they will start from the village, nestled in the heart of a secluded area and go to magnificent cliffs, passing by waterfalls and mineral wonders!

Starting Point

The starting point of the hike is in the center of the village of Baume-les-Messieurs.

Why visit Baume-les-Messieurs

It will be possible, during the hike, to admire the Imperial Abbey, a marvel of architecture rich in history, enthroned over the whole village: the most curious will be able to stop there for a guided tour. The village is also rich in activities: you can go and meet the local artists and craftsmen or taste the Côtes Du Jura wine, which is no longer presented.

Very close to the village, from April to September, visitors can discover the Grottes de Baume, where you can admire concretions, vast rooms and galleries, a river and an underground lake!

A little further on, after climbing the steps of the Sermu Ladders, one can admire the Jura landscape and its Natural Cirque of Baume, then the Belvedere of Crançot will let us admire, from the cliffs, the Reculée of Baume and the village surrounded by hills.

Just below, walkers will find the Cascades des Tufs, among the most beautiful and majestic in Europe, and will go along the Dard stream.

Things not to be missed

The village has several of accommodation offers.

From April to September, it will be possible to set up your tent or caravan in one of the 52 pitches of Camping de la Toupe, a charming campsite along a small river.

It will also be possible to stay in one of the hotels, cottages or bed and breakfast, to enjoy the calm and charm of the village in a total immersion.
