The Chaudefour Valley National Nature Reserve is located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the Puy-de-Dôme department. Created in 1985, it is one of the oldest nature reserves in France. It covers an area of 2,885 hectares and is composed of three main areas: the Chaudefour forest, the Dordogne gorges and the Sancy plateaus.

The Chaudefour forest is made up of a forest massif that covers nearly 1,000 hectares. It consists mainly of beech and fir trees. The gorges of the Dordogne are a set of canyons and ravines that extend over a length of 5 km. The Sancy plateaus are wooded hills that reach an altitude of 1,690 meters.

The National Nature Reserve of the Chaudefour Valley is an important site for fauna and flora. In particular, protected animal and plant species such as the lynx, the chamois or the juniper can be found there.
