The Grande Basque Islands of the North Shore - Duplessis are located at the northern end of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 50 km south of Ungava Bay. These islands, which are part of Canadian territory, consist of three main islands (Grande Basque, Petite Basque and L'Isle-aux-Coudres) and several islets.
The climate is subarctic and winters are very cold with average temperatures of -10 °C in January. Summers are relatively mild with average temperatures of 15 °C in July. The most favorable time to visit the Grand Basque Islands is from June to September.
The islands are covered with typical northern vegetation: pine, fir, spruce and birch. The animals that inhabit the islands are mainly birds (ducks, swans, terns, etc.) and mammals (caribou, foxes, hares, etc.).
