The Trails
The hiking at Parc-aventure Joannès covers 9.4 km of trails with a modest 100 m of elevation gain, making it a comfortable outing rated Easy. Plan for roughly 2 hours 30 minutes on the trail at a relaxed pace. The terrain winds through dense boreal forest and alongside calm lakes, the kind of landscape that Abitibi-Témiscamingue does particularly well — quiet, expansive, and rich with the smell of spruce and pine.
The trails are well-maintained and clearly marked, which makes navigation straightforward even if you're not an experienced hiker. The low elevation change means the paths stay accessible for families, beginners, and anyone who just wants to move through the woods without grinding up steep climbs. That said, the forest itself keeps things interesting — the canopy shifts, the light filters differently depending on the time of day, and the lakeside stretches offer natural rest points with views worth stopping for.
Beyond hiking, the park maintains an extensive network of approximately 35 km of mountain bike trails, including technical routes for experienced riders.

The Treetop Adventure Course (Arbre en Arbre)
What sets Parc-aventure Joannès apart is its aerial adventure course featuring 5 different aerial routes (parcours aériens). These suspended bridges, zip lines, and elevated platforms take you up into the tree canopy for a completely different perspective on the forest. It's a genuine highlight — the kind of activity that works equally well for kids looking for a thrill and adults who want to push their comfort zone a little. The views from up top, looking out over the surrounding wilderness, are a solid payoff for anyone willing to clip in and go.
The courses cater to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced adventurers, allowing visitors to combine a morning hike with an afternoon on the aerial course and come away feeling like they've had a full day outdoors without ever leaving the park.
