Have you ever wondered what distinguishes humans from other animals?
If you have any sense of observation, you'll notice that humans are pretty much the only animals in creation that move around on two legs. Okay, I'll grant you there are a few species of apes that manage it and some have even managed to get themselves elected president, but we can agree that it's a characteristic trait of our evolution that's pretty natural for most representatives of our species.
In the text that follows, I give 7 good reasons to make the most of this means of locomotion that allowed you to reach pole position in the food chain.
1. It's accessible
Walking is a completely natural movement that for most people requires very little effort. Unless you're severely disabled, everyone can do it, at least at their own pace. You can also walk anywhere and anytime. With minimal preparation, there's no excuse to miss out on this activity that represents an excellent way to reconnect with your true nature. And if you're lucky enough to find yourself in nature to practice hiking, your pleasure will be multiplied by ten. You'll see, there are more and more places designed to allow your body to express itself in nature.
2. It costs nothing
Seriously, if money is what's stopping you, you probably failed a couple of math classes in elementary school. It's elementary though - there's no physical activity simpler or more economical than walking.
In the forest, site development costs can sometimes require a monetary contribution from visitors. But most of the time, the fees are minimal. And tell yourself that these operating costs allow you to travel safely in nature while facilitating access to magical places you couldn't have reached without development.
The spectacular has a price. The monetary trade-off is also linked to the level of comfort you desire. This is true for the ground you step on, which is sometimes mechanically worked, as well as for the equipment you use. The more comfort you want, the more you have to shell out the cash, regardless of the activity you're doing.
3. Solo or social, walking adapts well to your needs
There's no sport easier to adapt to your life than hiking. If you feel wild, you go alone, and believe me, there's no better way to find yourself than walking in nature. If you want to see people, it's an excellent way to develop your social skills. It's also an activity that will surely allow you to charm your significant other.
There's nothing more romantic than a sunset on a mountain summit.
4. It's the most effective anti-stress pill
If you're the type who needs a pill for the slightest of your little ailments, you would greatly benefit from taking up walking as quickly as possible. The walking movement is a natural sedative that regulates all body systems, which prevents many diseases in the long term. Moreover, walking is a moderate activity that allows you to be more aware of your environment and your breathing, which has the effect of calming your mind. The air quality and tranquility found in nature are also factors that contribute to reducing stress on the body.
5. It allows you to get back in shape
Walking is the basis of all movements your body can perform. It's the easiest way to involve the most muscle groups at the same time. It's through extension of walking that all other ways of moving became possible. Walking therefore represents a good complement to all other sports you'll want to try. And if you need it to become more intense, nature offers you plenty of challenges to achieve your goals. Whether through ground irregularity, incline, or route duration, there's always a way to add intensity to your hike. If you're not yet convinced, well combine business with pleasure by dragging a bag or even your child on your back (if you don't have a child, I'm sure someone in your circle will lend you theirs for free for an afternoon). I guarantee that after a couple of hours, you won't worry anymore about the degree of intensity you can achieve by walking.
6. It allows you to discover lots of things
Walking is the autonomous mode of transportation most adapted to your senses. It's by walking that our ancestors found ingenious ways to adapt to the elements. In nature, hiking provides you with the opportunity to connect with the ground and all the other elements that surround you. When you let yourself be propelled by the rhythm of your legs, you make yourself available to everything that is. It's the best way to discover the forces that animate the life forms around you and those that evolve inside you.
7. It's fun
You're still not convinced that hiking is for you? If you think about the first important step you took in your life, you must agree that walking is the one that had the most impact on your development. Remember: One day you let go of your mother's leg and faced the invisible all alone like a big kid. And the fun you felt inside allowed you to believe you could accomplish just about anything equally grandiose.
One day you undertook the greatest hike that exists, that of life's great journey. And if you're even slightly connected to your emotions, you'll become aware that walking is reconnecting with that force that pushes you forward despite the obstacles that will present themselves on your path.
I'm not the only one to attest to this - several people who have integrated regular hikes into their lives can confirm it for you; walking in nature is a way to give yourself back power in all other aspects of your life, it's more than a pleasure, it's a key that gives you access to inexhaustible happiness, it's right there, within your reach!
Come on, get up and walk, your true nature awaits you!
