François meets the woman of a thousand faces, Karine Champagne, who shares the main highlights of her personal journey. With complete humility, she shares the significant events and life choices that led her to take control of her destiny and become a source of inspiration for thousands of women in Quebec. Despite all the hats this public figure has worn, we can now summarize her learnings in one message everyone can relate to: As long as you're breathing, you can always move forward!
Be inspired by the story of this incredible woman who opens the path to discovering your full potential. One step at a time, she'll help you understand that facing any challenge, you are still and always your greatest ally!
As a child, Karine was athletic and very talented in almost every sport she tried: track and field, soccer, volleyball, to name just a few, allowing her to better know herself and become familiar with the competitive environment that would shape her career choice.
Over 20 years ago, Karine began a career in journalism. Eager to learn and travel the world, she leveraged her communication talents to carve out a place in the television industry. Moving from Abitibi to Saguenay, then to Montreal, she devoted heart and soul to this passion that nourished her and consumed all her energy. Generous with herself, she eventually forgot about her own needs and found herself at a crossroads in 2011 following a depression. This forced pause would become the trigger for a spectacular transformation.
For her recovery, the doctor didn't prescribe rest—on the contrary, he recommended integrating at least six hours of physical activity into her daily schedule! For someone who had relegated sports to the bottom of her priority list since college, this seemed enormous, almost inconceivable. But by giving her physical body the chance to move a little more each day, by setting new challenges that made her grow, she came to this decisive realization: taking charge of her life would happen through movement.
Armed with this new life philosophy, Karine undertook her fitness journey with the same passion that had launched her career, going from a sedentary lifestyle to participating in a world triathlon championship in just 18 months. Much more than a physical transformation, Karine also changed how she ate and thought. A completely new strength animated her, and she now felt ready to take on other challenges.
In 2013, she enrolled in a program to climb Kilimanjaro and founded the group Les Merveilleuses, aimed at encouraging women to move more. From 50 women who came to run a 5K, they grew to 25,000 two and a half years later!
Following this significant experience, Karine shared with us: "The greatest lesson I learned from my experiences came from my Kilimanjaro ascent where, exhausted, I began focusing on my breathing. I constantly repeated to myself: one more step, one more step. If I'm breathing, I can still move forward. And that's how I reached my goal. I later realized this philosophy applies to everything in life."
Karine has lived many other nature adventures: kayaking in Greenland, ascending Machu Picchu (again, to name just a few), and with each challenge, only one thing motivates her: the opportunity to surpass herself again and again.
"The only person I'm trying to impress is myself," she confides.
According to her, motivation isn't something you either have or don't have—it's rather something that's generated, that's built. Setting a goal and being in harmony with how to achieve it is all we need to be happy.
