Trail Network and Terrain
The park offers approximately 6 kilometers of interconnected trails that wind through diverse habitats over relatively flat terrain, with minimal elevation gain of just 3 meters. Plan on 1 hour and 30 minutes to explore the full network at a comfortable pace, though you can easily spend longer if you're interested in birdwatching or beachcombing.
The well-maintained trails cater to all hiking levels, from families with young children to more experienced hikers looking for a peaceful coastal walk. The paths meander through lush maritime forest where twisted oak trees and hardy shrubs have adapted to the constant salt air. As you walk, you'll notice how the vegetation changes—dense woodland gives way to more open areas where beach grass and wildflowers dominate the landscape.
The trail system connects seamlessly with the beach, allowing you to transition from forest walking to shoreline exploration. The sandy paths are generally firm underfoot, though they can become softer near the water's edge. During your hike, you'll encounter several viewpoints offering stunning vistas of Gardiners Bay, with Plum Island visible in the distance on clear days.
