A precious resource for an entire generation of enthusiasts
For several years, the website AlexHike.ca, created by Alexandre Lauzon, was a true goldmine for hiking enthusiasts in Quebec. With its simple tone, detailed trail guides, and personal approach, this blog helped hundreds — even thousands — of people discover new trails and experience the joys of the outdoors.
Now gone from the web, AlexHike nonetheless leaves a lasting mark in the collective memory of those who consulted it.
A blog made with passion
At a time when major platforms like AllTrails or Gaia GPS weren't yet as widespread, Alexandre Lauzon shared his own discoveries, his favorites, and his photos on a site that breathed authenticity.
Each guide offered:
- a clear trail description 🥾,
- difficulty level,
- estimated time,
- personalized tips,
- and often a personal note about the experience.
It was a bit like asking advice from an experienced friend, rather than reading an impersonal guide.
What AlexHike meant to me
Personally, AlexHike helped me take my first steps into the world of hiking. I remember planning several outings thanks to his guides, particularly in the Cantons-de-l'Est and the Lanaudière region.
It's largely thanks to sites like his that I wanted to create LetsGoPlayOutside.com: to continue sharing this passion, and offer a new accessible and inspiring platform.
Thank you Alex, you inspired a crowd of people to get out, walk, explore... and that's perhaps the most beautiful contribution of all.
