Why hike in Yarmouth & Acadian Shores?

Yarmouth sits at the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia, where the Bay of Fundy opens onto the Atlantic. Farther north, St. Marys Bay lines the Acadian Shore, where French-speaking villages follow one another along the coast. The terrain is low and wooded, dotted with lakes, and the sea is never far away.

Trails in the region

Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park, northeast of Yarmouth, is a walk through mixed forest around a lake. The Deerfoot Trail lies farther north, toward St. Marys Bay.

Before you go

Fog is common on the southwest coast, especially in summer: bring a windbreaker and don't count on a clear viewpoint. Ticks are present in the woods, as elsewhere in the province, so check your clothing when you get back.
