Why hike in Kivalliq?

Kivalliq is one of the three regions (Kitikmeot, Kivalliq, Qikiqtaaluk) under which Travel Nunavut lists its members (travelnunavut.ca/members). They are also the territory's three census divisions; Travel Nunavut does not publish a tourism boundary map.

Kivalliq covers the mainland west of Hudson Bay, with Southampton Island and Coats Island. Its seven communities: Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Coral Harbour, Naujaat, Rankin Inlet and Whale Cove. Ukkusiksalik National Park is here; the Kivalliq Regional Visitor Centre is in Rankin Inlet. (Secondary sources: Wikipedia / Travel Nunavut, to be rechecked.)
