Trail description

Description

Boler Mountain sits on the outskirts of London, Ontario, offering year-round outdoor recreation despite its modest size. While the name suggests a towering peak, this location is more accurately described as a hill or elevated bump in the landscape. Don't let the humble elevation fool you—what Boler Mountain lacks in vertical drama, it makes up for with diverse activities and well-maintained facilities that have evolved far beyond its origins as a simple London ski club.

The centerpiece of the operation is a substantial 16,000 square foot chalet that serves as the hub for all activities. This isn't just a basic warming hut—it's a full-service facility that anchors the mountain's transformation from a local ski club into a regional destination for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

Winter Sports and Skiing

Winter transforms Boler Mountain into Southwest Ontario's accessible playground for snow sports. The ski area features fifteen distinct trails designed to accommodate everyone from nervous first-timers to confident experts looking for a quick run close to the city. The trail system is thoughtfully laid out across the hill's modest but skiable terrain, with each run clearly marked according to difficulty.

Beginners will find comfort on the green trails, including Elbow, AppleJack, and Easy Street. These gentler slopes provide the perfect environment for building confidence without the intimidation factor of steeper terrain. The progression through the trail system allows skiers to gradually work their way up to more challenging runs as their skills develop.

It's important to note that these trails are specifically designed and maintained for skiing and snowboarding—they're not suitable for hiking. The groomed surfaces, safety barriers, and ski-specific infrastructure make Boler Mountain inappropriate for those seeking traditional hiking experiences or backcountry exploration.

The resort takes instruction seriously, offering structured programs for different age groups and skill levels. The Lil'Rippers program caters specifically to children between ages 5 and 15, providing ski and snowboard lessons that can be booked for any day of operation. The program focuses on building fundamental skills while keeping the experience fun and age-appropriate. Adult lessons typically begin in January, allowing grown-ups to learn alongside their kids or finally tackle that long-postponed goal of learning to ski.

Tubing Adventures

For those seeking pure adrenaline without the learning curve of skiing, the Tube Park delivers high-speed thrills with minimal skill requirements. The facility features three separate tube runs launching from platforms that tower ten stories above the landing areas. Under optimal conditions, riders can reach speeds exceeding 70 kilometers per hour—a genuine rush that rivals much larger mountain operations.

The tubing experience requires no previous experience or special equipment beyond what the resort provides. It's an ideal activity for mixed groups where some members might not ski, or for families looking for an activity that everyone can enjoy together regardless of athletic ability.

Summer Transformation

When the snow melts, Boler Mountain reinvents itself as a summer adventure destination. The Treetop Adventure Park takes advantage of the forested areas around the ski runs, creating an entirely different kind of vertical challenge. This aerial obstacle course utilizes the natural tree canopy to create suspended challenges that test balance, strength, and nerve while providing a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape.

Mountain biking represents another major summer draw, with trails that wind through the hill's varied terrain. The bike trails take advantage of the natural contours and elevation changes that make the area suitable for skiing, creating rides that offer both technical challenges and scenic variety. The trail system accommodates different skill levels, from casual riders looking for a pleasant cruise through the woods to more aggressive cyclists seeking technical features and steeper descents.

The summer activities maintain the same accessibility philosophy as the winter operations—providing outdoor adventure that doesn't require extensive travel or expert-level skills. The proximity to London makes Boler Mountain an ideal destination for after-work rides, weekend family outings, or introducing newcomers to mountain biking in a controlled environment.

Practical Considerations

The resort's location within easy reach of London makes it particularly valuable for urban residents seeking outdoor recreation without lengthy travel times. The substantial chalet facility provides amenities that smaller, more remote locations often lack, including food service, equipment rental, and comfortable indoor spaces for breaks and socializing.

Seasonal operations mean that activity availability depends entirely on the time of year. Winter sports typically run from December through March, depending on snow conditions, while summer activities generally operate from late spring through early fall. The transition periods between seasons may offer limited services as the facility switches between its winter and summer configurations.

The family-friendly focus extends beyond just offering programs for children—the entire operation is designed to accommodate multi-generational groups and varying skill levels within the same family. This makes Boler Mountain particularly suitable for introducing outdoor activities to family members who might find more remote or challenging locations intimidating.

While serious hikers seeking wilderness experiences or significant elevation challenges should look elsewhere, Boler Mountain serves its intended purpose exceptionally well as an accessible, multi-season recreation facility that brings outdoor adventure within reach of Ontario's urban population.

Starting Point

Boler Mountain was once an empty lot. Now that it has improved in so many ways, one might easily notice it on the edge of London city. Finding it is an easy job; you don’t even need a map. Take Oxford Street West, turn off the Sanatorium Road, and continue your way through Boler Road.

Head South and take a right to Griffith Street. By then, the ski club Boler should already be noticeable. And as for the trails, there are plenty of them. But, remember, they’re not hiking trails. So be always careful when you’re on either one of these trails.

The trails are already presented and neatly informed with a detailed map. Since this mountain is the skiing and mountain biking location, the starting points should be noticeable at the bottom. So enjoy your day, and get the best of it.

Edited from original review: Greg and Peter did an excellent job with their team making the service right. We had a poor experience initially but the manager reached out personally to connect and ensure we had a much better experience the next time. Food was great after our outdoor activities at Boler Mountain. Drinks were very good. Service was excellent. Thanks to Barb our server as she was wonderful! Volleyball courts here are great to play on as well. Our team will definitely return in the future!

Gave me the little push I needed. Thanks Ryan. Really appreciate you. This is a fun time no matter what age you are! Great alternative to the moderate hiking trails when you want something more adventurous.

SO FUN! Treetop adventure + big zip for $60 after tax is so worth it at Boler Mountain. I went alone and still had a blast exploring this Southwest Ontario outdoor destination. Great fun and great for exercising with 300m of elevation gain. Would definitely come back. Even though I felt kinda scared because of all the waivers and giving up legal rights to sue etc, they do a good job with their safety measures so my concerns were less and less as I went through the activities.
