It is a small walk from the parking place (10 minutes) or a moderate climb or descent from the lake (166 meters). The waterfall in August is a big joke. When you make a picture under a right angle it looks like a waterfall. But when you come closer you see it is a small stream only 3 meters height... So be prepared for disappointment if you're expecting a dramatic cascade. The observation tower is on the other hand very nice, especially during sunny weather you have a spectacular view over the lake. The 2.5km trail with 300m elevation gain takes about 1h15, so the cascade is nice to do as combination with the tower. But I would not recommend to go to the waterfall as only destination, especially considering the paid access.

Marvelous place with a magical atmosphere at Cascade de Mérelle. The 300-meter ascent through the Ain region leads to this pristine natural wonder along a well-maintained 2.5km trail that takes about 1h15 to complete. However, be careful to leave the place exactly as it was before you came - the ecosystem looks rather fragile and needs our protection. Despite the paid access and parking fees, it's a worthwhile destination for those seeking unspoiled nature. The moderate difficulty makes it accessible while still providing a satisfying hiking experience.

Very cozy place at Cascade de Mérelle. The water spills over the rock and forms 3 waterfalls creating a peaceful atmosphere after the 300-meter climb along the 2.5km trail. Was real fun walking up there through the Ain countryside, taking about 1h15 with moderate effort. Great location for a rest or even a picnic (no table there), though keep in mind the access isn't free and parking also requires payment. The natural setting makes it worth the effort and cost for a pleasant outdoor experience.
