Why hike in Albert County?

Albert County, on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick: three waterfalls reached on foot, Dickson Falls and Laverty Falls in Fundy National Park, and Gordon Falls near Elgin.

Why hike in Albert County?

Albert County runs along the Bay of Fundy in southeastern New Brunswick. It is home to Fundy National Park, near Alma, and to the wooded hinterland that rises behind the coast. The bay's tides are very strong: at low tide, wide stretches of seabed are exposed along the shore.

Three waterfalls on foot

Dickson Falls and Laverty Falls are in Fundy National Park; both are forest walks that end at a waterfall. Gordon Falls, on the Pollett River near Elgin, lies outside the park, farther north. The rock walls around Gordon Falls are high and accidents have happened there: watch the falls from below, don't jump from the cliffs.

Before you go

The falls run fuller in spring and after rain, and are more modest in late summer. Wet rock is slippery, so shoes with good grip are a must. An entry fee applies in Fundy National Park.
