Why hike in Southwest NB?

Southwest New Brunswick, from Saint John to the Maine border: city parks, Bay of Fundy coast, and the islands of Grand Manan and Campobello.

Why hike in Southwest NB?

This stretch of the Bay of Fundy runs from the Saint John area to the Maine border, with two large islands offshore: Grand Manan and Campobello. Tides are strong and fog is common in summer.

Saint John and surroundings

Rockwood Park has forest and lake trails inside the city of Saint John. Irving Nature Park, on the bay, alternates shoreline, forest and marsh. At Reversing Falls, the tide reverses the flow of the Saint John River where it squeezes through a narrow gorge; the effect can be watched from the lookouts.

The coast, west and east

West of Saint John, New River Beach Provincial Park gives access to the shore. To the east, the Fundy Trail Parkway follows the coastline near St. Martins and serves trails and lookouts.

The islands

Anchorage Provincial Park is on Grand Manan Island, reached by ferry. Roosevelt Campobello International Park is on Campobello Island, linked to Maine by a bridge at Lubec.

Before you go

Check ferry schedules before planning a trip to Grand Manan. To reach Campobello by road you must cross the U.S. border at Lubec, so bring your identification.
