The round trip distance is 2.63 miles (4.23 km) with 604 feet (184 meters) of elevation gain.
From Hamburg, NJ take Route 23 South. Turn left/east on Rt 517 Rudemann Road. Watch for Sand Pond Road on the right. Turn right and drive to the end near the gate marked PRIVATE PROPERTY. Park in the pulloff at the end of Sand Pond Road.
No. This hike is best suited for experienced hikers comfortable with uneven terrain, rocky sections, roots, loose stone, and scrambling. The trails are not heavily manicured and may have blowdowns, seasonal mud, and unmarked side paths.
Bring sturdy hiking boots with ankle support, a downloaded offline map or GPS track, trekking poles, plenty of water, and navigation tools. Cell service is unreliable in this area.
Fall is the prime season with cooler temperatures and drier trails. Summer is lush but hot and humid. Spring brings mud and possible icy patches into April. Winter is possible with proper gear but rocky sections become hazardous when iced.
