Trail description
The Lighthouse and Its History
The Point Atkinson Lighthouse is the centerpiece of the area. Built in 1875, it's one of the oldest lighthouses on the West Coast. The current concrete tower, built in 1912, replaced the original wooden structure. The site was designated a National Historic Site of Canada and is now primarily a heritage and cultural site rather than an active working light station. The keeper's cottages and outbuildings are still standing, and the whole station has a well-preserved quality that reflects its historical significance to coastal navigation.
Access to the lighthouse grounds is managed by the District of West Vancouver, and it's worth checking current access conditions before you go, as visitor access to certain areas varies seasonally.
