Discover the trail
Trail description
The park's main attraction centers on its collection of massive old-growth Douglas fir trees, with some specimens reaching over 800 years in age. These ancient giants create a natural cathedral effect, with their towering trunks forming pillars that support a dense canopy high overhead. The filtered light that penetrates through the branches creates an almost mystical atmosphere, particularly during the softer light of early morning or late afternoon.
Trail System and Terrain
The well-maintained trail network features two main loop trails on either side of Highway 4, with a combined walking distance of approximately 2.2 kilometres. The trails are wide, relatively flat with only 50 meters of elevation gain, and feature a mix of packed earth, wooden boardwalks, and gravel sections. This accessible design makes the park suitable for wheelchairs, strollers, and visitors with mobility challenges, while still providing the authentic experience of walking through an old-growth forest.
The loop trails take approximately 1 hour to complete at a leisurely pace, though many find themselves lingering longer to fully absorb the peaceful atmosphere. The path winds between the massive Douglas firs, offering multiple vantage points to appreciate their impressive girth. Some of the largest trees have interpretive signs that provide context about their age and the forest ecosystem.
