Description
The Setting
Parc André-J.-Côté is located in Candiac within the Montérégie region of Quebec, a densely populated area where accessible green spaces are highly valued. The park sits on over 700 metres of riverbank bordering the St. Lawrence River, making it a meaningful outdoor destination for locals and visitors.
Trails and Terrain
The trail network features well-maintained paths with minimal elevation gain (10 m) and relatively flat terrain throughout, consistent with the St. Lawrence lowlands landscape. The main route spans approximately 2.6 km and can be completed in around 20-45 minutes depending on pace, making it suitable for all ability levels including families with young children and older adults.
Natural Features
The park's riverbank has been stabilized with a mix of rocks and vegetation. Walkers pass through diverse natural environments including wet forests, grassy areas, water retention basins, and dry stream beds. The trail also features notable landmarks including a 100-year-old house and a fountain, adding historical and cultural interest to the outing.
The wooded areas provide tree canopy for shade during warmer months and visual interest throughout the seasons, while the open spaces offer views toward the river and surrounding lowlands.
