Why hike in Unlimited Lakes & Parkland?

North-central Saskatchewan, where the boreal forest takes over from the prairie: Prince Albert National Park, Narrow Hills and its Gem Lakes, Greenwater Lake and several more lakes.

Why hike in Unlimited Lakes & Parkland?

North of the prairie, the boreal forest spreads in large stands of pine and spruce, broken up by lakes. The city of Prince Albert is the gateway to Prince Albert National Park, to the north.

Prince Albert and its national park

Prince Albert National Park, home to the Waskesiu townsite, brings together boreal forest, aspen parkland and fescue grassland, with many lakes. In the city itself, Little Red River Park has trails beside the river. Anglin Lake, Ness Lakes and Delaronde Lake are lakes north and northwest of Prince Albert.

East: Narrow Hills and Greenwater

Narrow Hills Provincial Park, to the northeast, is a landscape of hills and small glacial lakes; the Gem Lakes are part of it. Greenwater Lake and Marean Lake lie farther southeast.

West

Makwa Lake and Brightsand Lake are in the west of the region.

Before you go

Black bears live in the boreal forest: keep food out of reach and make noise as you walk. Mosquitoes are numerous in June and July. Entry to the national and provincial parks requires a fee.
