Nice walk an hour from Lyon. On the other hand, presented as a very easy family outing...uh no! The descent from the beginning is easily passable by all, but not the dreadful climb that follows with the 200m elevation gain concentrated in steep sections. The ascent can be quite demanding, especially for families with young children. Lots of very nice installations and sculptures to discover though. Think of good shoes and avoid taking too young children or people who have little endurance on challenging terrain. Beautiful forest setting despite the misleading difficulty description.

Family course in the forest of 4.5 km with 7 activities/experiences. Very well laid out with 200m elevation gain distributed throughout the route. Allow 2 hours for the complete experience. Feasible with baby in baby carrier, though some steeper sections require extra caution. The interactive installations make it engaging for children of various ages. Departure and arrival at the parking lot level. To get there by car, there are about fifteen minutes on a forest track from the road, so plan accordingly for vehicle access.

The Forêt Départementale de la Cantinière is a pleasant place, but I found the trails lacked variety. While there is 200m of elevation gain, the terrain feels relatively gentle, which will suit families with young children, but for lovers of more challenging hikes, it may seem a bit disappointing. The forest paths are well-maintained but don't offer technical challenges. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was relaxing and I had a good time enjoying the peaceful woodland setting.

We went on a family hike to the Forêt Départementale de la Cantinière. The shade of the trees was very appreciated on a hot spring day. The children loved looking for insects and observing the different types of trees. The atmosphere was peaceful, ideal for a moment in nature. The 200m elevation gain is manageable for families, though some sections require supervision with young children. I recommend going early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy the best wildlife viewing opportunities.

As a passionate hiker, I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of flora in this forest. The trails are well marked and I was lucky enough to spot some interesting bird species. With moderate elevation changes of around 200m, it's a perfect place to disconnect while getting some exercise. The varied terrain keeps things interesting without being too challenging. I will definitely come back in autumn to enjoy the colors and experience how the seasonal changes transform this beautiful forest landscape.
